The Playwriting Contest, co-sponsored by the Henderson County Public Schools and Flat Rock Playhouse YouTheatre, was originally approved by the Curriculum Committee of the Henderson County School Board in January 1993 as an acceptable extra-curricular activity. This year's contest is for Henderson County 7th and 8th graders.

Students are instructed to write a one-act play with 5 (or fewer) characters that takes place in a single location.
Scripts should be no longer than 8-10 pages, typed, font: times new roman, size 12 point
Pay it Forward can be expressed as "One act of kindness can change everything." The expression "pay it forward" is used to describe the concept of asking that a good turn be repaid by having it done to others instead.

Students should read through the Letter to Final Judges online to have an idea of what the judges are looking for, and print a copy of the Cover Sheet and attach it to their script. Scripts must be submitted to the School Contact (listed below) by their due date: (we suggest February 20, 2012.) The School Contact will forward the five best scripts from their school to the final panel of judges at the Playhouse by our due date: March 5th.
The winning entries will be read before an audience on April 16th, 2012 at the Flat Rock Playhouse.
• First Prize receives a $300 cash prize and a Plan B Season Pass to the Flat Rock Playhouse.
• Second Place receives a $200 cash prize and a Plan B Season Pass.
• Third Place receives a $100 cash prize and a Plan B Season Pass.
• If schedules permit, Flat Rock Playhouse will offer the playwrights a play-writing seminar to further develop their scripts and receive feedback.
