YouTheatre Spring 2012 AUDITION RESULTS:

YouTheatre would like to thank all who auditioned for our mid - semester auditions. The results and new additions to the 2012 semester are posted at the top of each performing groups list directly under the heading Spring 2012 Auditions Results

It is extremely difficult to ever turn down a student for a performing group which they wish to be a part of but to the very best of our ability we have made decisions based on what we feel is appropriate and best for each individual student.

We congratulate those that we ask into to these groups, and congratulate all who auditioned, each of you are now a part of our YouTheatre Family.

Audition Requirements for Each Performance Group
Call 693-3517 if you have any questions!

Folk Band:

Show us what you’ve got! Please prepare one complete song on your instrument or instruments; you may audition with more than one instrument! The song you prepare can be shortened, but must have a clear beginning and a clear ending and must showcase you to your best ability. Please bring any instruments you plan on auditioning with to the audition and note that those instruments must be able to be brought to each class throughout the semester if you are accepted into the performance group. Instruments include but are not limited to: acoustic guitars, upright/acoustic bass, banjos, fiddles, harmonicas, and singers.

Rock Band:

Please prepare one complete song on your instrument or instruments; you may audition with more than one instrument! The song you prepare can be shortened, but must have a clear beginning and a clear ending and must showcase you to your best ability. Only one amp and one electric cord will be provided, so please bring any instruments you need and we encourage bringing your own amp, electric cords, and pedals if you wish. Please note, the instruments and equipment you bring in and audition with must be able to be brought to every class throughout the semester once you are accepted into the performance group. Instruments include but are not limited to: guitars, bass, keyboard, drum set, and singers.

YT Revolution and YT Inspiration:

Upon arrival at the audition you will be taught a song and dance by your teachers/judges. You will be expected to learn both of these and perform them for adjudication.

Rising Stars:

Your audition piece will be an excerpt from Little Eva’s The Locomotion:

Everybody’s doing a brand-new dance, now.
(Come on baby, do the loco-motion.)
I know you’ll get to like it,
If you give it a chance, now.
(Come on baby, do the loco-motion)
My little baby sister can do it with ease.
It’s easier than learnin’ you’re A-B-C’s.
So, come on, come on, do the loco-motion with me!

You will also need to perform a reading from the following poem:

My mother has gone crazy.
I think she’s lost her head.
She toasted all my socks,
And she washed a loaf of bread.
She put jelly on my toothbrush
As said, “Scrub between your toes.
”Then she gave me her best tablecloth
And said, “Here blow your nose.”

Company & Conservatory:

Below you will find four monologues. Please choose ONE for your audition. Though we would prefer you have your piece memorized, you may hold the selection if you need/choose to. However, simply reading the piece will be UNACCEPTABLE. You must also prepare a musical selection. You may prepare a whole song but if we are running low on time, we will cut you off at specific place. An accompanist will be provided if you bring music. You should be prepared to chat informally with us for a few minutes about your interest in the program.

Monologues:

1. Gender Neutral:

“I can’t be like this. Not after what I’ve done. I’ve seen the world. People chanted my name. Well, not my name, some name you gave me. But they were chanting for me. I was in magazines. You think I ever dreamed that’d happen? I was born at two pounds, one-and-one-half ounces. Dad used to tell me I fought into this world, and I’d fight my way out! That’s all I wanna do; I just don’t wanna fight you to do it. I got what I needed. I got it all. Don’t let’em keep taking it away from me.”

2. Gender Neutral:

“I have always wanted to be a perfect person—funny, smart, witty, the one that everyone wanted to be or be best friends with. What I didn’t realize was on that search for whoever that person was, I lost myself. It’s very lonely trying to fit in someone else’s skin, and I think when you’re not comfortable other people can see it too. So when you’re hanging out with people who aren’t as loving or supportive as you thought is one thing, but to realize that you don’t know who you are--for that moment to feel really and completely alone--that’s another issue all together.

I think what’s really truly hard to realize is that there is no perfect person. But there are kind people and good people and people that love and care about you, those are the people that are perfect for you. So in the end I may be flawed and imperfect, but being normal—that’s good enough for me.”

3. Female Narrator:

“I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick—it even makes me rhyme. I hate the way you’re always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh—even worse when you make me cry. I hate it that you’re not around, and the fact that you didn’t call. But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you—not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.”

4. Male Narrator:

“Look around you, the flowers, the trees, and the frogs; they’re all part of the wheel. They’re always changing, always growing, like you Winnie. Your life is never the same, you were once a child, now you’re about to become a woman. Then one day you’ll go out, like the flame of a candle. You’ll make way for new life. That’s a certainty. That’s the natural way of things. Then there’s us. What we Tucks have, you can’t call it livin’, we just ARE. We’re like rocks stuck on the side of the stream. Listen to me, Winnie; you know it’s a dangerous secret if people find out about the spring. They’ll trample all over each other just to get to that water. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about people it’s that they’ll do anything...anything not to die and they’ll do anything to keep from living their life. Do you want to stay stuck as you are right now forever? I just have to make you understand.”
